Who is this module for?:
Required for anyone who has safeguarding responsibilities or who has contact with
children/young people and/or adults who may be vulnerable. Including but not limited
to:
- Members of Congregations, vergers, servers, sidespersons, caretakers,
admin staff, Helpers at children’s and adults activities - Youth Work Interns, Youth Workers, Leaders of children and adults activities,
- Safeguarding leads on PCC and PCC members
- Churchwardens, Bishops Visitors, Pastoral Visitors
- Parish Safeguarding Officers, Spiritual Directors, Bell Ringers
- Parochial Lay Workers (if not already eligible for this or another training
module) - Ordinands if not completed prior to placement, curates if not already
completed, Readers in training - Members of religious communities who are in active ministry and work with
children or vulnerable adults
Intended learning aims and objectives
The aim of the C1 module is to situate safeguarding in the context of the Church and
equip participants with knowledge and skills in knowing what, when and how to
report concerns. By the end of the module you will:
- Be able to describe the scope of safeguarding children and adults in the
church context. - Know the range of current state legislation, statutory guidance and Church of
England policies and guidance relevant to safeguarding, and the need to work
in partnership with statutory agencies. - Be able to describe your personal role and responsibilities in relation to
others, including self-protection, and who to report safeguarding concerns and
information to. - Be able to evidence how you respond well to safeguarding information,
including who to inform, referral for investigation and the boundaries of
confidentiality. - Be able to work safely in your role following C of E and Diocesan preventative
practice guidance.

The one-day course will be online, on Zoom.
When:
Thursday the 30th of November, 2023, from 9 am to 5 pm.
Duration:
The course is 8 hours long, including a break of 1 hour between 12-1 for lunch.
